Ever do something that lit your soul on fire…but afterward your brain was like, “Okay, I’m out. Please don’t talk to anyone for about…three days. Thanks, bye!”
Same friend.
In fact, that’s me right now. Recently, I volunteered to assist with a friend’s event that ran for the last ten days. It was beautiful, exciting, and meaningful — all of the good things. I got to share my story, connect with people, and soak in a ridiculously supportive space.
But here’s one that they don’t put in the brochure: high energy connection is still a withdrawal from your mental battery — especially when you’re neurospicy and still doing your regular life on top of that. Add a full work week, personal responsibilities, and the usual background static of existing, and guess what?
My spoons are in deficit mode.
Practicing What I Preach (Even when it’s not comfy)
Last week I shared a whole post about mental capacity and the importance of intentional recovery time. And you know what? I’m taking my own advice. (Shocking, I know.)
So this week’s post is this. This right here. A little check-in with a side of truth.
A moment of saying, “I don’t have it in my to write a whole article today — and that’s okay.”
In truth, I could have powered through, the way we all have so many times. I could have pushed my limits and cobbled something together. But if I did that, I wouldn’t be modeling what I truly believe in.
Rest is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. It’s the foundation of the whole damned system!
So today, instead of a full blown post, you are getting the realest version of myself. Earphones playing binaural beats and reading some brain candy with no regrets.
Your Gentle Invitation
If you are also feeling wiped today — even from things you wanted to do — consider this your permission slip to take the day off from being “on”.
And if you need to hear it today: You don’t need to earn your rest. You already deserve it.
See you again after some recovery time!
I’d love to hear your recovery ritual when you’re running on fumes. Drop it in the comments and let’s crowdsource ideas for those of us toeing the burnout line with our fuzzy socks on (metiphorically of course).
Have a suggestion for the next post? Let me know. I’m always listening - and it would really help with my decision fatigue.
Good to know your limits
I'm sorry your reserves are negative, but I love this post so much. I'm proud that you were able to recognize it and take the rest that you need right now. Here's to a more relaxed week!
